Coffee Marketing

Hello everyone,

Today I’m presenting you a scoop given that for the first time I’m presenting you my own written personal statement. Despite my grandular fever wich kept me in bed for a little while and the fact that I’m feeling a little bit uncormfortable about summing up positive characteristic about myself I have to admit that writing a personal statement was a really interesting attachement. Learning some convenient tips and introduces them directly in my own personal statement was very instructive. The most fun part about writing my own personal statement was probably speculating about my future. Although I have a plain plan in order to achieve my goals in the future today I still have to use the word speculating for the simple reason that I didn’t realize them yet. By counting on my sense of accountability and hard working I hope to furfill my dream. So let show you around in my hypothetical professional future.
After my studies in Gent and Poland, an internship and refining my languages I would start my professional carreer in an international communication company in order to gain some experience.

I realise that just a theoretial basis, obtained at the university, will not be enough for a succesful career. With these experience in my knwoledge backpack my dream is to lay the foundations of my own communication company specialised in corporate and marketing communication so in brief communication whithin an enterprise but alsao from the enterprise to the outside world. With my masters’s degreein Digital and New Media I would like to distinguish myself form others thus I can offer my clients a perfectly fitting marketing strategy on digital media such as social media and maybe in a model of an application seeing that those plaforms dominate in our network society.
I’m a social person with a huge love for coffee because it is in a way something that bring people together. It would be delightfull to unite people in my own ScandanCheers-Wallpaperaviancoffeshop where people can enjoy exotics coffe flavours and a big variety of nice pie. I already toke a litlle barista class. In learned how to make pictures in your coffee and a the history about the coffee bean. Of couse I wil have to take many more classes to become a fist class barista. After drinking tea or coffee people can snooping around in the little shop corner where I present my own designed teacups, selling coffee beans and many other coffee accessories.

I hope I get the opportunity to fulfill this dream and welcome you all later with a cup of coffee when we are helping you with the marketing strategy of your company or just to catch up memories about our fantastic college days at the university of Gent.

See you!

Personal Statement – Tilde Vandebuerie – Final Draft

Expedition VRT

Dear fellow students,

Last week a few communication students, among them myself, had a little trip to our capital. Last month Bruxelles have been overshadowed by the sad events which happened in this vived city. But last year I got my heart set in this city when I found out how many beautiful places, such as cosy coffe shops, green parks with impressive fountains and small side street whith the most sophisticated concept store. It grieves me that such terrible incidents caused a distorted fear but it grieves me more that such terrible incidents can happen in our world.

Anyhow back to our little trip that wasn’t a shopping our touristic day trip but a day which was fully in tune with our field of study. Namely we visisted the Public Service Television of Flandres or in Belgium known as the VRT. When we arrived at the famous tower everyone was very exciting especially Lonne, she instantly took a picture. We started with a guided tour in the buildings of the VRT. During the tour the set of the sport program Sporza showed us that vuluminous amount of light is an important element when a program is recorded. It gives us a bigger perception of the studio than it actually is. Next we explored the old blue key studio where the wheater report was presented by Sabine and Frank. They couldn’t were any blue clothing because it would look like the weren’t wear any clothing. Accidental I was wearing a blue sweater at that moment and the guide asked me to test the blue key… It was a really comical picture. Furthermore we saw where the redaction of MNM is working and we watched from the central control room how Hanne Decoutere was presenting the news.

After dinning in the restaurant we were picked up by the crowd warmer who gave us a place in the studio, of course full of light, where Van Gils & gasten, a current affairs programme, would be recorded. Lonne gets a second moment of excitement when she was asked to take the place of Lieven Van Gils, the presentator, to introduce the guests. She really owned the moment because even Alex Callier, the bass player of Hooverphonic, was impressed. On my turn I was impressed by Alex Callier and his band when they played a mini concert for us. After a little chat with Lieven and Alex Barabara takes one more picture with the tower. It is a beautiful memory of a perfect day for future communication students. And maybe in 10 years we will be watching Lonne presenting Van Erp & Gasten.

See you,
T.

Hello everyone…

While I was eating delicious chocolate Easter eggs in this Easter vacation I was mostly occupied with writing, reading, more writing, underlining textbooks, spilling chocolate on my paper,… During  reading many  academic papers and articles relating to our tasks I realised the class about reading a paper did help me to strucute the text better in order to dig up the essence faster. Altough I’m concvinced that experience is the most efficient way to acquire this specific skill. The simple message would be practice makes perfect. The pages in our manual about linking words and the sentence structure will be very usefull when I have to write an English paper myself.

Above the reading I also tried to improve my personal statement. Not an easy goal because writing something about myself is a really big challenge to me. As a matter of a fact you have to sell your own capacities and put your positive skills in some way in the middle of the spotlights. Furthermore you have to find a balance between not being too abstract but still keep on an adequate amount of objectivity. A lots of deleting and rewriting later I finished my final tekst. There is only one more thing to think of. A title. A good hook to strike the attention of my reader. Obviously I would be a professional in devising a title after writing these blogs but there is nothing coming up. Something to overthink while i’m laying in bed this night.

After reading the first two paragraphs you all probably think “she didn’t come out her house yet in this week” but I can reassure you that I did breathe some fresh air this week.
Last weekend we drove with the youth movement (only with the leaders ofcourse) to Steinbach, a very small village in German-speaking Belgium. Every year we visit our base where we will going on our yearly ten days’ camp in the summer. During this three days we exploring the area, planning activities, finding out a route for the dropping and ofcourse making a lots of fun with each other. I’ve had seen a lot of beatiful camp areas but this one was…yeah I will name the word breathtaking. 12919171_10209041815027484_1057045588_n

After three hours driving we were situating us in a valley surrounded by kilometrs woods and many fields. A river flows trough the playground. Waking up with the sound of streaming water and singing birds was a little bit paradisiacal. The first day we climbed to the highest point of the mountion and were able to overlook the whole valley, a splendid view. Something else was special about the spot because it was obvious the only place in the entire area where you could use your cellphone and had a little bit of wifi. This place is perfect for romping with the childeren. I really look forward to this ten days.

Under crossing de t’s and dotting the t’s in my tasks I’m dreaming about that little paradise in Belgium … and eating one more Easter egg.
See you.
XOXO

Fire of Foals

Last weekend Vorst transformed in a world famous scene where the most wanted terrorist of the world came on stage. The fuss make us almost forget their is another well known scene in this borough  from Brussels. A concert hall where magic happens or we could better say where magic is played. Many artists burned this place down but the most biggest fire was certainly ligthned by my favourite band Foals. The moment I heard this rockgroup would have a stop during their tour in Belgium I bought tickets for me and my boyfriend. The perfect present for him seeing that he collected all their records and EP’s. It was a beautiful evening with goose bumps on my arms, many singing people and a lot of dancing in the pit. The atmosphere you can easily describe by the following words afire, aflame, aglow… Foals sets fire in Belgium.

Foals was found in 2005 in the Britisch city Oxford. Initially their were four musicians and Andrew Meirs, the singer. They were an indie rock group making rough, pure songs with a leading role for the guitars. This sound was mostly captured in Antidote, their debut record. Altough I appreciate their first three records I swooned completly when a new episode began in their musical history. When Andew was replaced by Yannis Philippakis, who is also playing the guitar, their genre has changed a little bit. More computers and electronic sounds are involved and are blend with the traditional guitars and drums. “Holy Fire” and “What Went Down” , the latest two albums, are representing this new more funky style. “What Went Down” flaunts, with a huge head, on top of all my playlists on spotify.  Especially number two on this record  “Mountain at my gates” touch me every time when I just hear the first two seconds. But when guitarist Jimmy Smith starts his solo I’m totally blown away. His live version was even thoussand times better! The next song, bitch tree, started…a concert hall full of silence except for the notes played  by Yannis, who’s is at that moment laying on the hands of his fans. When he reached the stage again the audience explodes. Magic moments…

This fiery music played with passion gives me a feeling of hope. Music is a language every people in the world understand. So maybe the power of music can remove a few of the negative scenes in our world and bring a little bit of positive fire in return. I really like to hold on tot his beautifull but maybe also naive thaught. Music can changes things right? Or am i really that semtimental?
Dear fellowers may I just ask you to open this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_EIE5f2t6M) close your eyes and just enjoy the fire of foals.

See you

World Facts!

Planning and travelling are charactheristics which describes me perfectly. When I’m going for a trip I lend out  every  available travelguide in the library. Besides the practical planning I mostly  search for funny facts about my destination (so I can boasting right and left about my knowlegde of the city or country to my  co-traveller(s);-p). I’d think it would be fun to present a little bit of this habbit in an infogrophic.

The fact about the luggage was very surprising to me because I thaugt more suitcases dissapear after their where unloaded or simply were forgotten in the airport. Norway is a country i’d really like to visit in the nearest present, especially for wandering through the norwegian fjords. The lakes, as beautiful as the country, provides 99 per cent of clean energy for the norwegian inhibitants. Quite impressive is rather an understatement for this high number. Travelling to Indonesia could be dangerous because the coutnry counts at least 127 active volcanoes. As many lava and volcanic rocks in Indonesia as less naturally rivers are flowing through Saudi Arabia (concretly none). With 820 languages spoken on their territory Papa New Guinea has the maximum of diversity without any doubt. I could continue for hours to search this interesting facts but maybe my readers has more interesting facts that they like to share whith me? Let me know!

See you!

Hello Warschau!

Schlossplatz in Warschau
Schlossplatz in Warschau

A room in one of this colorful buildings located on the beautiful square, named “Slossplatz”,  will be my home next year. Warschau was my first choice to study for at least one term. I picked out a university in the middle of the city because I like the atmosphere of a vibrant and energetic city where people get to know each other in the local coffee shops, where you can stroll along the shops or where you can enjoying a little bit of culture like a concert from an indie rock group or an exposition of modern art. I was  confident that I had to choose a city but which one would it be…???

“Warschau??? Oh that is a cold place.” or “What is bringing you to such an unknown country”? are many reactions I get when I’m telling people that i was accepted to Collegium Civitas in Warschau, Poland. Well, the unfamiliarity with the Polish culture in our Western regions is just the answer why I choose it. I’d like to explore and find out the differences as the similarities with our manners. Poland is since a couple of years a booming country on in many fields suc as in economics and more interesting for us, passionated communication scientists, in communicationmanagement or journalism.

Moreover my interest in history influenced my choice as well. Despite the horrible memories of Auswitz I really want to visit it while I’m staying in Warschau. During my stay I will also plan a trip to Krakau and a hike in one of the twenty-three National parks is certainly on my “to-do-list”. With a map of this tough but elegant city I will find the best Caffe lattes, the most beautiful musea, the most pleasant parks and squares,… I will get to know Warschau of her very best.

See you next year W.!

Getting to know each other

Last monday we had our first class of Scientific English for Communication Sciences. After we met our theacher Mrs. Bonic we started the topic of our very first lesson.
We learned about the differences between some types of texts. Using the words formal and informal helps us to define some types of texts. For example a blog, as this one, is mostly informal. They could be adressed directly to the reader and are written in long easy sentences.  Moreover there are not many synonmys or hypernyms in contrast to a scientific article which is a formal type of text. Those texts are not easy written  but contains complex, compound and short sentences. Typically for the categorie of formal texts are the  repeated words: we name them concepts or terms. We could also find differences between texts depending on the audience for whom they are intended. Two categories can be distinguished: the laymen or scientific people. This distinction is the essence of what we will see in the next lessons in the early monday morning.

See you!
